One Bear | One Book Alumni Book Club | Brown University Slavery and Justice Report 2nd Edition

In 2003, Brown University President Ruth J. Simmons appointed a Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice. Composed of faculty, administrators, and students, the Committee was asked to investigate the University’s historical relationship to slavery and the transatlantic slave trade. In 2006, The Committee released a report that sparked a national conversation about institutional legacies.

Join the Center for the Study of Slavery & Justice in collaboration with the One Bear | One Book program for a community discussion of Brown University’s Slavery & Justice Report 2nd Edition. The revised and expanded second edition features perspectives that offer insights on the persistent and evolving impact of Brown’s original 2006 report. This discussion will conclude this season’s One Bear | One Book alumni book club series.

In Case You Get Hit by a Bus: How to Organize Your Life Now for When You're Not Around Later with Adam Seifer '90

Channeling Benjamin Franklin, we know nothing can said to be certain except death and taxes...we got a reprieve on the tax deadline until May this year but about the other thing...Authors Adam Seifer '90 & Abby Schneiderman of Everplans, the leading platform in digital life planning, discuss their new book with us and share their tips on how to deal with the logistics of what can happen following an unexpected crisis. Some of these planning points include how to:
Navigate difficult conversations about sensitive subjects with loved ones
Create a plan for accessing passwords for accounts associated with your day-to-day life
Document all your assets using a simple financial blueprint
Gain a full understanding of all the medical directives and legal documents you may need––including: Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Trusts
Establish every detail about your home and vehicles
Create an advance directive that articulates your wishes for end-of-life medical treatments and designates an individual to ensure those wishes are honored
Assemble a living memory complete with photos, recipes, and significant stories Everplans, and this book, were created to help people manage when they are unexpectedly faced with difficult personal and financial decisions on someone else’s behalf. As a leading life planning digital platform, Everplans has spent years educating people on how to get a handle on the unpleasant but inevitable decisions that just about everyone will need to make at some point. Breaking the tasks down into three levels, from the most urgent (like granting access to passwords), to the technical (creating a manual for the systems in your home), to the nostalgic (assembling a living memory), this clear, digestible book is a reference tool that readers can turn to time and time again when navigating seemingly daunting circumstances. Join us and make Benjamin Franklin proud!
