Start the new year with an act of service for our community! You'll meet fellow kind-hearted Brown alums while making an impact on the fight against food insecurity.
The SF Food Bank collects donated food from growers, manufacturers and grocers, then distributes it to people in need, from soup kitchens & homeless shelters to child care & senior centers. They will distribute more than 15 million pounds of food this year to hungry people throughout San Francisco.
January is an especially important time to volunteer as the Food Bank will be sorting holiday donations in addition to their regular workload. Volunteers will assist with gleaning and boxing produce, sorting food donations, repacking bulk food items such as rice and beans, assembling grocery boxes, stocking pantry shelves and more.
Afterwards, walk a few blocks with fellow Brunonian volunteers for some scrumptious BBQ at Smokestack at the Magnolia Brewing Co (woohoo!).
Please arrive at the food bank by 5:45pm. Children over 12 yrs are welcome (please register them). Wear casual, clean clothing (preferably long pants) & comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Dress in warm layers--the temperature in the warehouse can be cool (& because it's SF). Bonus points if you wear a Brown sweatshirt!
