1 Bear 1 Book Alumni Wide Book Club Presents Rita Bullwinkel '11 Discussing her Novel Headshot

  • San Francisco, CA (map)

It’s on! 2026 ushers the fourth season of the ever-scrappy 1 Bear | 1 Book alumni wide book club

Formed in 2021 during Covid-times to bring alumni together from all spaces and places, 1 Bear | 1 Book celebrates great (often alumni!)writers and creates a uniquely Brown venue for dialogue with their works.

From January through April alumni will read selected books that reflect the best of our regions, nominated by our very own alumni regional clubs. Book events will feature the authors in person for audience Q & A.

Our first event for our fourth season is a discussion of Headshot by Rita Bullwinkel '11. Rita will be in San Francisco in person as well as on Zoom to remote participants. Join us in person or online.

Headshot was nominated for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for fiction, longlisted for the Booker Prize, and a Barack Obama “favorite read" among other accolades.

About Heashot:

An unexpected tragedy at a community pool. A family’s unrelenting expectation of victory. The desire to gain or lose control; to make time speed up or stop; to be frighteningly, undeniably good at something. Each of the eight teenage girl boxers in Headshot has her own reasons for the sacrifices she has made to come to Reno, Nevada, to compete to be named the best in the country.

Join us in this fun collaboration with fellow Brown alumni clubs and affinity groups!

Brown Alums Who RSVP with us on Brown Connect Plus will receive a Zoom link and/or address of San Francisco in person location
